What is Air Pollution Doing to You and Your Children?
You Can Take the Lead and Do Something Today! Your Kids Will Know You Love Them.
by Vic Shayne, PhD
I recently wrote a book called Evil Genius in the Garden of Eden, for which I received a lot of praise and a lot of criticism. Why the criticism? I think I scared people, and this isn’t necessarily a pleasant thing to do. But you should know that I also scared myself in the process of writing this book and over the subsequent months as I read more and more about pollution and how we are making ourselves sick with the generous contribution of Big Industry.
Sure, we all know that air pollution is bad, and I don’t want to overload you with a bunch of statistics on how many people get asthma or cancer or die because of it. Rather, I just wanted to let you decide for yourself what you can do and give you some things to think about.
Every couple of years I fly to the Los Angeles area to attend a huge trade show. It never ceases to amaze me how there is a visible, ugly orange-brown cloud hanging over the entire city upon our descent into the LA airport. People in that city live under a toxic fog. It’s a deadly fog. What caused it? How did it get that way? Well, it was created pretty darn fast by a combination of automobiles, trucks, industry and oil refineries. Is the air over all of our cities headed for the same destiny? We can prevent this; you can prevent this; you can save your children from this eventuality.
Now, at this late date (better late than never), California is really angry and doing something before it implodes. Despite the fact that the huge and powerful automobile and oil companies have been pushing politicians around for decades, even to the point of destroying a fleet of electric vehicles and blocking clean-air legislation, Californians are putting the brakes on air pollution. They see that it is causing cancer, asthma, allergies, lung diseases of all sorts and untold other health issues. They also admit that it is contributing to GLOBAL WARMING, a problem that affects EVERYONE IN THE WORLD and is melting the ice caps so that the North Pole is disappearing and may cease to exist by the time our children are in their middle ages!! For heaven’s sakes, when the snow packs on the world’s highest mountains from Tibet to the Andes to Mount Kilamenjaro are disappearing right before our eyes (as you can see on satellite photos), we have a monumentous problem!
What the heck are we leaving our children?? Are we just going to let them be poisoned and leave them a world that is devoid of snow capped mountains and one in which people are starving because pollution dismantled the environment? Or are we going to ACT NOW and change our ways? As a father, I vote for the latter. Here are things you can do:
- Rent or buy the movie An Inconvenient Truth
- Rent or buy the movie Who Killed The Electric Car?
- Recycle like crazy
- Reuse things; don’t be wasteful. Don’t let your garbage pile up and seep into underground water tables, springs, rivers, lakes and creeks
- Buy an electric car
- Switch to biodiesel fuel
- Buy wind power or solar power from your electric company (if it’s not available, then demand it. They may not care, but you do!)
- Wash your plastic ziplock bags instead of throwing them away
- Conserve water; don’t let water run longer than you really have to
- Buy an economical car
- Support companies that care about the environment
- Eat only organic foods because they don’t use pesticides
- Buy environmentally friendly products
- Stop using chlorine, ammonia, and bug sprays
This is just a beginning, but these are things you can do today. Do it for now and the future. Do it for your children. Since you signed up to receive this email newsletter, I know that you are the type of person who cares. You really care about health; you’ve thought about it. You can make a difference and you can set an example.
We don’t do it to set an example.
We do it because we believe in caring for others.
You should also know that our little company, Nutrition Research Center, does not use any product with artificial ingredients, we never use bug sprays, we only eat organic foods, we own a hybrid Honda Civic, we own an electric scooter, we buy wind power from the electric company, we never use commercial cleaning products, we buy our napkins from Seventh Generation, we use only recycled packing materials and boxes, we recycle like crazy and we try to respect our environment. Further, we support NutriPlex Formulas and use their products because they support local, organic farmers all over the world; it’s more costly, but well worth the money.
If you want to add to our list of things everyone can do, then email us at nutritionresearchcenter@yahoo.com and give us your two cents. We always appreciate your feedback. We’re counting on you and your family to help and make a difference, and believe us when we say we appreciate this!
