More people get poisoned from what they’ve eaten than they realize

631390_food_and_drink_2Most people would call it the flu or a cold. Your family doctor would tell you you’re suffering from a twenty-four hour bug or a bad virus. But did you ever realize that eating bad food can cause symptoms like fever, chills, vomiting, stomach ache, headache, coughing, mucous overload, sneezing, runny nose and other such symptoms?

Former U.S. Food and Drug Administration economist Robert L. Scharff estimates the total economic impact of foodborne illness across the nation to be a combined $152 billion annually. (Source: Make Our Food Safe Coalition)

“The costs associated with foodborne illness are substantial,” says Scharff, who is now an assistant professor in the Department of Consumer Sciences at The Ohio State University and author of The Health Related Costs of Foodborne Illness. “This study puts the problem of foodborne illness in its proper perspective and should help facilitate reasonable action designed to mitigate this problem.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that approximately 76 million new cases of food-related illness—resulting in 5,000 deaths and 325,000 hospitalizations—occur in the U.S. each year. The ten states with the highest costs per case are: Hawaii, Florida, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, the District of Columbia, Mississippi, New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

What to do?

Here are helpful actions you can take when poisoned by food: Take charcoal tablets, drink plenty of water, take Ultimate Defense tablets, do coffee enemas (helps push toxins out of the liver and gallbladder) and be sure to call a doctor if it’s bad enough, especially concerning children and the elderly.
