I'm Hungry, I'm Starving, I'm on a Diet!

Health Question:
Can you explain why my body went into horrible hunger after losing weight on a 1000 calorie diet. I lost 25 pounds quite easily and then my body was ravenous until I gained 50 pounds. Never once was I not ravenous for that time.

Doctor’s Reply:
The reason for hunger is complex and may include all or one of the following:
1. The more we eat, the more our bodies seem to grow accustomed to. Thus, if you are accustomed to eating a certain amount of food and then cut back, your body will want more until it reaches a new “set point” of what it expects to receive;
2. Hunger occurs when the body needs nutrients. Therefore, it is possible to crave nutrients even when eating a lot of foods. If you eat the wrong kinds of foods your body will still be hungry for the right kinds of foods. Thus, empty calories do not satisfy the body as do nutrient-dense food calories;
3. Certain substances in common foods create an addiction to foods. Chief among these is sugar. Sugar comes not only in the form of table sugar, but sugar contained in a wide variety of foods such as ketchup, sauces and processed foods. All carbohydrate foods are sugars. Therefore, many times it take a bit of time before you break your body of the sugar addiction.
4. Some substances stimulate the hunger mechanism. Included in this group is caffeine.
5. Nutrient deficiencies can lead to hunger. You can be hungry because you are not being fed the building blocks of biochemical functions. When your body senses that it does not have the appropriate nutrients to carry on its basic functions of healing, metabolism, immune defense, etc., then it will signal the stomach to let you know that more nutrients are demanded.

Regarding this last issue, it is best to take several whole food supplements as part of the daily diet. Unlike vitamins and multivitamins, whole food supplements contain food substances that are part of Nature’s food complex.

This basic schedule includes:
BFood Complex at 6 tablets a day
SuperGreens PhytoFood at 6 tablets a day
Energy Food at 4 tablets a day
