Health Question: What to do with dry skin with rashes
Q: I have always had dry skin but several times a year. I break out so bad and itch until I have to go to the doctor and get a steroid shot. What can I do about my itchy rashes? Thank you in advance
A: There are many possibilities when it comes to this problem, and often the solution is a matter of deductive reasoning. But one thing to remember is that steroid shots NEVER resolve the underlying problem and may lead to other health problems. To see what these are, go to the library and look up the side effects in the Physicians Desk Reference. And never rule out a food intolerance.
That being said, one problem is that in certain states the atmosphere is very dry at particular times of year. Drinking water is not usually enough to resolve the skin’s problem because the problem has more to do with RETAINING water than CONSUMING water. And oils are the body’s (skin’s) natural way of retaining water. Therefore, try consuming more oils and fats of the HEALTHFUL variety, including organic coconut oil (eat a teaspoon and a half a day; you can spread it on toast), organic olive oil, organic flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil and cod liver oil. You need to try this over the course of several weeks.
A good regimen is
10 Evening Primrose Oil capsules per day
2 CodLiver oil capsules per day
4 ImmuneSupport tablets per day (Nutrition Research Center, http://www.nutritionresearchcenter.org)
Apply Aura Glow (Heritage Products, from your healthfood store or order online) several times per day
You can also use Aveeno anti-itch Concentrated Lotion topically for itching, but this is not a solution to the problem, only for the symptom. This product is available in health food stores and drug stores.
Next is the possibility of allergic reactions. Sometimes static electricity brings out fibers that are toxic or itchy and these fibers get all over the house and into all the furniture. Such fibers can come from carpets, area rugs, furniture, woolen garments and so forth. The only way to get around this is to stay away from offensive fabrics, vacuum frequently and keep your house clean.
Another possibility is dust mites. These can be eliminated by using the nontoxic DustMite X. Here is one source of many that sell this product: http://www.achooallergy.com/dustmite-X.asp
DustMite X works without dangerous pesticides or other poisons and is safe around pets.
