Health Question: What to do About Big Sinus Problems
HEALTH QUESTION:
I have been having constant sinus(?)pressure on the right side of my head and in my right ear. It is all the time.I have had a CT sinus scan which was normal. My ears have been looked at. I take very good whole food supplememts, but nothing helps the headaches. A chiropracter thinks it might be the lymphatic system and gave me very intense neck treatment. I had minor relief for a short time, but they continue. Any suggestions?

OUR ANSWER:
First, although we do sell whole food supplements, I’ll be the first to tell you that this is not the main way to address these problems. For most sinus problems, the diet is at fault. I have personally studied this extensively because I had suffered from sinus problems for many years before understanding how to avoid them.
Certain foods create problems for certain people. We are not all alike. Milk gives me a sinus headache, but does nothing to my wife. I can’t eat foods fried in canola oil because I’ll end up with a splitting headache.
Sinus sufferers should go on an immediate Elimination Diet. (You can request one of these diets by emailing us). When you simplify your diet, the headaches and stuffiness usually eventually go away. The problem is mostly diet related. I say mostly because there are indeed other possible contributing causes (in addition to dietary problems), including but not limited to allergies to plants, dust, perfumes, fumes, exhaust, mold, etc. But the diet is still the key issue!
The main offenders of the sinuses, in addition to the above, include:
- all dairy products: cheese, milk, cream, cream cheese, etc. But usually not butter
- eggs
- certain oils and fats (this is a key issue!!!)
- animal dander
- certain condiments
- bad oils and fats (margarine, hydrogenated oils, fried oils, etc)
- snack and junk foods
- chemicals in foods
- chlorine in pools and jacuzzis
- wine
- beer
- soy
- more
There is also an outside chance that sinus problems are related to gluten intolerance. (Read the articles on this blog page on the subject of gluten intolerance).
PROBLEMS BREAKING DOWN FATS IN
THE LIVER AND GALLBLADDER
NEXT, sinus problems (in addition to the above) may also be related to problems with breaking down fats. For this we use DigestPlex every day taken at every meal. DigestPlex helps break down fats. The liver and gallbladder are supposed to break down fats, but for some of us these organs just can’t handle the job.
IS IT THE WEATHER? THINK AGAIN.
It may appear at times that the weather causes sinus problems, but it does not. Instead it is a trigger, not a cause.
External help may come through these steps:
- Take frequent steamy showers (steam baths are better)
- Snort some warm water into each nostril (careful, because this is sometimes painful)
- Enemas with water followed by enemas with organic regular coffee (this helps dump toxins out of the liver and flush the gallbladder so that fats can be more easily broken down)
- Hot wet compresses
- Strenuous exercises that leads to heavy breathing
- Acupuncture from a Chinese Medical Doctor (be careful here, because you want a qualified practitioner)
- Acupressure
- Massage of the sinuses
YE OLDE COFFEE CURE
Here’s an more old cure for sinus headaches, but they are not recommended except in extreme cases: Drinking three cups of organic, strong coffee. This has knocked out many a painful sinus headache. However, coffee is not necessarily good for everyone and does has its side effects such as lightheadedness, calcium and vitamin B deficiency, anxiety, nervousness, etc. I first read about this cure when reading a history book on the Civil War; a soldier was writing home to his his parents and said that he had a headache and drinking strong coffee was the cure. I use it in rare cases when nothing else works for me.
