Health Question: Nutrition & Drug Overload?
QUESTION:
I am a 56 yr-old woman, overweight, who is on Hyzaar, Toprol, Metformin, and Crestor. It has been suggested that I take a multi-vitamin (whole food), flaxseed oil, Omega-3, digestive enzymes (Probiotics), cod liver oil, and green fuber supplements. My question is if I can take all these supplements plus my medications, won’t these be too much for my stomache to digest? I’m worried that I’m ingesting too much. To me, it will seem like all I’ll do all day is take pills.
Thank you,
B.
ANSWER:
Great question. Let’s break this down and look at it logically. First off, the fact that you are on so many prescription drugs shows that there are health problems galore. Drugs are not foods; they do not contain any nutrients. So, even if you are taking drugs for your health problems, you are still starving for nutrients to feed our body what it needs to recover and heal.
Be sure to understand that your health problems are not due to a drug deficiency. This is why I named one of my books Illness Isn’t Caused by a Drug Deficiency! This means that you need nutrition and lifestyle changes to become healthy. The drugs will not give you this. Instead, they will just suppress, stimulate or stabilize chemical reactions in your body.
The real health builder is found in food (what you eat on a regular basis), exercise (what you do to stimulate your body) and the mental/emotional/spiritual aspect of you (stress issues, mental processes, feelings, relationships, attitudes, beliefs, etc.). Supplements alone, as you can now see, do not solve your problems altogether. However, the supplements we use are made only of foods, so at least they will not be adding even more strain/stress to your body. You absolutely need real, whole nutrition; your body cannot survive in health without this.
The first thing you should do is go off somewhere by yourself and decide what you want. If it is good health, then decide what you are willing to do to get this. Don’t look at this as a sacrifice, but rather an investment. You have a choice over what you want to eat. Read my book, Illness Isn’t Caused by a Drug Deficiency! This is where you can read about the details of how to eat a healthy diet.
GO AHEAD. TURN YOUR LIFE AROUND. You can do it! Many other people have and so can you.
Regarding the supplements you need to take, here is an easy schedule:
SuperGreens PhytoFood: 8 tablets a day
Fish Oils: 4 capsules a day
This is a good start.
Next, read our section on weight loss.
Losing weight is not as hard as the diet books make it seem. It really has to do with two things: reducing the calories and avoiding eating carbohydrates.
