OVERVIEW
Losing weight is a national obsession that’s making diet pill makers, book writers, magazines gyms and spas absolutely rich. But don’t blame Oprah. It’s not her fault.
Marketdata, a market research firm that has tracked diet products and programs since 1989 releases its findings in its biennial study:
“The U.S. Weight Loss & Diet Control Market.” which in its 2007 study estimates the size of the U.S. weight loss market at $55 billion. It is now estimated to have reached over $60 Billion.
World Health Organization (WHO) reports that approximately 1,148,000,000 people worldwide are overweight. But this isn’t necessarily because people are eating better.
THE PROBLEM
What does being overweight mean in health terms?
Here are some of the diseases that are linked to eating too much, as well as too many of the wrong foods:
- heart disease
- diabetes
- joint problems
- respiratory ailments
- wounds that won’t heal
- loss of circulation
- skin problems
- digestive illnesses
- cancer
- sleep disorders
- sexual dysfunction
- liver disease
- pancreatic disease
- back pain
- emotional problems.
The only way to approach this problem is with a combined dietary, lifestyle and psychological program.
Ideal weight is achievable with a true commitment. If they work at all, fads don’t last.
THE NATURAL APPROACH
Losing weight is 99% mental and 1% physical. This means that your mind is your most powerful tool in losing weight, according to the most natural approach to achieving optimal weight. Your body needs to be told what to do. Don’t let your fingers put bad food or too much food in your mouth!
As a rule of thumb, consuming carbohydrates — whether candy, soft drinks, bread or muffins — will put a burden on your pancreas as it tries to pull sugars out of your blood stream.
Sugars that are not converted to be used as energy are stored in muscles, the liver and as fat. Burning fat only happens when you eat fewer calories than your body can use, when you exercise and when you cut way back on eating carbohydrates.
So, there are essentially 3 dietary considerations when it comes to losing weight.
First, you need to consume fewer calories than you burn.
Second, you need to stop eating foods that are stored as fats, which, are in most cases, carbohydrates.
And thirdly, you can take certain supplements that will help your body process what you eat.
THE RESEARCH
If you want to lose weight, besides the essential exercising and smart eating choices, experts all agree that your body has to work efficiently to burn fat and process sugars that come from carbohydrate foods.
Researchers at Georgia State University have found that fat cells give feedback to the brain in order to regulate fat burning much the same way a thermostat regulates temperature inside a house.
“If you’re doing a moderate amount of exercise or even if it has been a fairly long interval since you last ate, you will use up all or most of the available glycogen, necessitating the break down fat to yield sufficient energy,” says Tim Bartness of Georgia State’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
In simpler terms, this means that your brain and body work together to burn fat after carbohydrates have been used up. So, if you stop eating so many carbohydrates, your body begins to burn its fat stores, leading to a thinner you.
SUPPLEMENTS
There are three main supplements to help your body work more efficiently to break down the foods you eat:
GTF Complex, which processes sugar and helps support your pancreas, which is used to remove sugars from your blood stream,
DigestPlex, which is an enzyme product that helps break down food particles, and
BFood Complex, which helps produce digestive juices and increase your internal energy.
